It combines illusion and trickery with physical strength. Because it can only be seen by drunk people, it was considered an imaginary Pokémon until very recently.
Biology[]
Physiology[]
Winotinger is a bipedal reddish-pink leporine Pokémon with small yellow antlers, a long thick tail, webbed claws, and yellow-tipped wings. It has a ruff of thicker white fur around its neck and at the end of its tail. Its stomach, feet, and undertail are yellow, and it has yellow fur at the end of its ears and semi-circular yellow eyebrow markings. Its eyes are maroon.
Special Abilities[]
In addition to the craftiness of its pre-evolved form, Winotinger possesses illusory abilities and is only able to be seen by drunk people, presumably because inebriation impacts its ability to fool the mind in some way.
Behavior[]
Winotinger is a reclusive Pokémon, preferring to avoid notice through means of trickery and illusion. Due to its evolution method, it can be inferred that this Pokémon has an affinity for alcohol in some way, most likely related to the jackalope basis of its pre-evolution, Jackdeary.
Habitat[]
Winotinger is found mainly in the mountains, but is known to go into nearby towns and villages to mess with the minds of drunks.
Winotinger is the only Pokémon in the game whose catch rate is actually higher than its prior evolutionary form, despite Winotinger not possible to catch in the wild.
No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Winotinger and Jackdeary.
Design Origin[]
Winotinger is based on the mythical animal called a Wolpertinger, which is made using taxidermy to attach claws, fangs, wings, etc. to the body of a rabbit.
Winotinger is almost certainly inspired by the 1950 movie Harvey, in which a man with a propensity to drink has an invisible 6' 3" rabbit or "pooka" that only he can see as his best friend. It could also be based on the Ometochtli from Aztec mythology, which could explain its alcoholic theme as well as the location of the region. It is also important to note that Winotinger's pre-evolved form, Jackdeary, is based on a mytical creature that has ties to acohol.
Name Origin[]
Winotinger comes from wino (a term for an alcoholic) and wolpertinger.
