Mat Block is a defensive Fighting-type move.

Effect

Mat Block protects all Pokémon on the user's side of the field from any moves except status moves for that turn.

Unlike Protect, this is not an increased priority move. (Prior to 1.2.5, Mat Block was bugged and had a priority that both exceeded and ignored the effects of Feint.)

Similar to Fake Out, Mat Block will only work if used on the first turn after the Pokémon enters the field; the Pokémon must be switched out and back in to be able to use Mat Block again.

Feint and Phantom Force will hit regardless and lift the effect of Mat Block from the target's team when successfully used.

Trivia

• Prior to Patch 1.2.5, Mat Block still functioned as a permanent protection against Special and Physical moves instead of lasting only the duration of the turn. For as long as the user of Mat Block stayed in battle, it could proceed to using other moves while being unaffected by special and physical moves.
