Dermafrost first became available in Beta 3.1 (1).
It was originally intended to make the fossil the player didn't choose available after completing the Tandor Championship.
Snopach and Dermafrost are the only fossil Pokémon capable of learning Ancient Power in Pokémon Uranium, despite all official fossil Pokémon possessing the move after its introduction in Gen 2.
Design Origin[]
Dermafrost is primarily based on a Woolly mammoth, but also takes inspiration from snowy mountaintops.
Name Origin[]
Dermafrost is a combination of pachydermata (from two Greek words παχύς pachys, "thick" and δερμα derma, "skin", meaning 'thick skin'), an obsolete taxonomic order of mammals that was used by scientists in the 19th century, which included elephants, rhinoceroses, and hippopotamuses as chief members, and permafrost, which is soil at or below the freezing point of water for two or more years.
