The Tsukinami Village Gym is the eighth and final gym the player faces. It is led by Hinata and Kaito, who specialize in day and night-themed Pokémon. To solve the puzzles, make the number of black and white tiles equal in each area by walking on them. Stepping on a white tile turns it black, and vice versa.
This is currently the only place in the game where Spiky Shield can be acquired via Sketch for use by the player later. If you want to use the move but fail to Sketch here, you will have to replay the game up to this point and try again.
The Gym Leaders are battled one after another without an interruption, but you can choose which one to battle first, essentially making this an 8-Pokemon battle.
Hinata's name can be interpreted as 日向, meaning 'Sunny Place', 陽向, meaning 'Toward the Sun', or 向日葵, a non-standard interpretation meaning 'Sunflower'
Kaito's name can be interpreted in the ways 海斗, 開士, 魁斗, 海翔, 海人, 快斗, 凱斗 or 海都, usually relating to the sea or sky, and is a common Japanese male name.
Hinata is the first and only Gym Leader (outside of the Championship Site) that uses the Hidden Abilities of Pokemon. However, while most of her Pokemon have their Hidden Abilities, she is not a perfect contrast to Kaito, as her Whimsicott does not have Chlorophyll before Mega Evolving.
Kaito appears to be the first Trainer and, by extension, Gym Leader to have a Pokemon with normal abilities, but having those abilities be predetermined even when another non-Hidden Ability exists.
Prior to 1.2.6, this Gym was very sluggish and prone to glitching.
The following are not errors in the Wiki, merely deviations from how moves are usually chosen for the Pokemon of Trainers:
